ACL & PicRave

Austin City Limits is this weekend and will mark the launch of the public beta of PicRave.

Oh yes!

memcached heaven

I’ve been doing a lot of playing with memcached lately.  Wow.  I’ll write some more detailed information about my tests later.   Of course, it doesn’t help much with writes but if you’ve got a ton of relatively static information pulled dynamically from your database, memcached is the way to go.

Hooray for technology.   Hooray for memcached.

Joyent

I’ve been looking at switching up the way I host a lot of my sites–especially PicRave–which will, in turn, make everything a hell of a lot more scalable than my current way of doing things.

  • Joyent seems promising. Its “Accelerator” specifically. Everything on their technical specifications page seems top notch. Basically, I could just upgrade my plan as I go and not have to worry about adding more servers manually, configuring network hardware, provisioning the added servers and worrying about different levels of replication, high availability, and monitoring.
  • Keep hosting with ThePlanet and grow as I need to but have all of the problems I basically wouldn’t have it I went with Joyent.
  • Do some colocation and buy my own hardware. Haha, yeah right.

I’m going to give it a test run with their basic plan and see how that goes. I’ll report back here with more information as I build out my slice there.
